Computing quadric surface intersections based on an analysis of plane cubic curves

چکیده
Computing the intersection curve of two quadrics is a fundamental problem in computer graphics and solid modeling. We present an algebraic method for classifying and parameterizing the intersection curve of two quadric surfaces. The method is based on the observation that the intersection curve of two quadrics is birationally related to a plane cubic curve. In the method this plane cubic curve is computed first and the intersection curve of the two quadrics is then found by transforming the cubic curve by a rational quadratic mapping. Topological classification and parameterization of the intersection curve are achieved by invoking results from algebraic geometry on plane cubic curves. 2003 Elsevier Science (USA). Computing All Conic Sections in Torus and Natural Quadric Intersections
Conic sections embedded in a torus must be circles of special types: (i) proole circles, (ii) cross-sectional circles , and (iii) Yvone-Villarceau circles. Based on this classiication, we present eecient and robust geometric algorithms that detect and compute all degenerate conic sections (circles) in torus/plane and torus/natural-quadric intersections. 2 Introduction Simple surfaces (such as p...
متن کاملMath Research Experience: Surface Intersections
During the summer between my junior and senior year, I was extremely lucky to be one of the 80 rising seniors who were admitted to the Research Science Institute (RSI) held at MIT. My mentor was Ryan Reich, a graduate student from Harvard University. Before the program, I was contacted by my mentor and was given a couple of project ideas. I could either do a project on tropical geometry or do a...

We give the classification of the configurations of the elliptic curves on the Fano surface of a smooth cubic threefold. That means that we give the number of such curves, their intersections and a plane model. This classification is linked to the classification of the automorphism groups of theses surfaces. The Fano surface of the Fermat cubic of P is the only one to contain 30 elliptic curves...
متن کاملA Cubic Facet Based Method for Estimating the Principal Quadric
A principal quadric estimator is described which is based on independently fitting cubic facets to the 3 components of position in a small neighbourhood of each data point. From the parameters of the fitted facets, the first and second order differential properties of the surface at the data point, and hence the principal quadric parameters, can be estimated. This method is compared with severa...
